Patriots excited to welcome back Brady

For the New England Patriots, all signs point to the healthy return of quarterback Tom Brady in 2009.

The decision to trade away backup quarterback Matt Cassell was a huge show of confidence in where Brady stands in his rehab from the knee injury, which at what time was called into question.

Had the team had any doubts at all, you would think they would have held onto Cassell for at least a few more months. Instead, the team has the confidence that Brady will be back and ready to play at a Pro Bowl level.

Now it’s just a matter of Brady getting back out on the field and shaking off some of the rust from missing nearly a year of football.

The team has made some upgrades since his injury, bringing in veteran running back Fred Taylor and tight end Chris Baker. Those two players should give them even more weapons on the offensive side of the ball.

Easy first games?

As the season nears, the Patriots’ first games of the ’09 season seem to have gotten easier. A few days ago, Marshawn Lynch, the Bill’s starting running back, was suspended for three games after his latest run-in with the law—this time for gun possession.

April 11, Buffalo’s DB Donte Whitner was tasered and arrested for aggravated disorderly conduct. Though Whitner was released early the morning after his arrest and no chargres were filed, he may yet face punishment by the NFL.

When the New England D shuts down the opposing offense, the Patriots should have no difficulty taking out the blockers and allowing Tom Brady and Randy Moss to control the game.
