Patriots roll past Falcons, 26-10

The New England Patriots got off to a slow start before a more lively second half led to a 26-10 win over the Atlanta Falcons.

The Patriots knew this week’s game would be important after struggling so much last week against the New York Jets.

Quarterback Tom Brady bounced back by throwing for more than 270 yards and a touchdown despite the absence of wideout Wes Welker.

Wide receiver Randy Moss, who was shut down last week, had 10 catches for 116 yards.

The Patriots will now host the Baltimore Ravens in what will be a pivotal early season matchup between the two teams.

Patriots fall to Jets, 16-9

The New England Patriots couldn’t make the New York Jets pay for all of their trash talking in a 16-9 loss.

The Patriots did a much better job than expected of slowing down New York’s strong running game, but their offense couldn’t come through.

Quarterback Tom Brady was constantly harassed by New York’s various blitzing schemes and never looked comfortable in the pocket.

The Patriots probably should have tried to run the ball on New York more than they did to set up their passing game.

The Patriots now must rebound quickly with back-to-back home games upcoming with the Atlanta Falcons and Baltimore Ravens.

Mayo on crutches

New England Patriots linebacker Jerod Mayo is on crutched after he sprained the MCL in his knee during the team’s season opening victory.

Mayo, now in his second NFL season, was expected to be thrust into a starring role this year after the Patriots released or traded their aging linebackers.

The Defensive Rookie of the Year could miss up to eight weeks, but the Patriots have no plans of placing him on the injured reserve list.

Head coach Bill Belichick remains hopeful that Mayo will be back at some point this to help the team, which is why he is willing to use up a spot on the roster for him for the next eight weeks.

The team pursued free agent linebacker Derrick Brooks but could not come to a contract agreement.

Patriots rally past Bills, 25-24

The New England Patriots were supposed to roll past the Buffalo Bills and celebrate Tom Brady’s successful return to the lineup.

However, an uneven offensive performance and some struggles on defense left the Patriots down 11 with just over five minutes to play.

Brady then mustered some of his old magic, driving the team down the field for a touchdown with just over two minutes to play.

Trailing by five and with three timeouts and the two minute warning, the Patriots elected to kick the ball deep.

A forced fumble on the kickoff return was recovered by New England, and Brady led the Patriots into the end zone once again for the game-winning score.
