Patriots sign Wilfork to long-term deal
The New England Patriots have finally rewarded star defensive tackle Vince Wilfork by giving him a five-year contract extension worth $40 million.
The team placed the franchise tag on Wilfork to avoid losing him, and the defensive tackle had made it clear for months leading up to the move how unhappy he would be with the organization.
However, Wilfork changed his tune somewhat after being slapped with the franchise tag, saying he really hoped that there was a good reason behind it.
It seems that the Patriots simply used the tag to give them more time to work on a long-term contract with Wilfork.
The contract now makes Wilfork the highest paid player at his position in the NFL, an honor that is well-deserved for the multi-time All-Pro defensive tackle.
