Patriots trade back, land McCourty

The New England Patriots trades back in the draft as they are known to do but still filled a need in the first round.

The Patriots gobbled up cornerback Devin McCourty after trading back from pick No. 24 with the Dallas Cowboys.

McCourty is a physical cornerback who started to make a name for himself just weeks before the draft.

The Patriots could use some cornerback help, and McCourty is also an outstanding special teams player.

The fact he is so good on special teams makes him the perfect selection for head coach Bill Belichick, who loves versatile players.

Patriots sign Holt

The New England Patriots have signed veteran wide receiver Torry Holt to a contract. Financial terms have not yet been released.

Holt spent last year with the Jacksonville Jaguars after playing many years with the St. Louis Rams.

The Rams were looking to rebuild and get younger and Holt’s skills had declined, so they let him go.

Holt caught 51 passes for 722 yards and no touchdowns last year with the Jaguars, who are a run-oriented team.

The Patriots could certainly use depth at the wideout position with Wes Welker’s status still unknown.

Thomas’ future still unsure

New England Patriots linebacker Adalius Thomas said he is still unsure of his future with the team.

Thomas is still on the roster and signed a big contract with the team just a few years ago, but he has been a disappointment and is not on good terms with head coach Bill Belichick.

He said that he has been in the league for 10 years and has never had a problem with a coach. He said he respects coaches and just wants the same in return.

Thomas said that coaches are going to do what is best for them and the team, so he has to look out for himself because no one else is going to do that.

He said he would be fine with returning to the team, but that if he’s not back, he has enjoyed his time playing in New England and interacting with the fans.
